Shanghai SH760A

More than a vintage car,

this SH760A is a unique crossover between classic automobiles and contemporary art.

Its custom paintwork was inspired by “Ideal”,

a limited-edition print by Jin Yucheng, author of Blossoms.

Uncle’s Shanghai Sedan

Episode 3:
The Uncle’s Shanghai Sedan

The third episode of Classic Cars On West Bund,
“Uncle’s Shanghai Sedan,”
dives into the rich history of the Shanghai SH760A.
Through the memories of several local "ye shus" (elder Shanghai gentlemen),
the film revisits the golden era of this iconic Chinese sedan —
a time when pride, passion, and the open road defined a generation.

Jin Yucheng and Blossoms: The Artistic Rebirth of the Shanghai Sedan

“The Shanghai sedan is part of Shanghai itself.
It carries the memories of so many people.
The car's paintwork was inspired by my artwork, Ideal.”
 — Jin Yucheng

He also noted that the Shanghai SH760A shares the same spirit as his novel Blossoms:
“They're both woven into the fabric of this city
—
 vessels of memory and emotion.

Like the characters in Blossoms, the car has lived through changing times,
yet still holds a special place in people’s hearts.”
The Cultural Legacy of the Shanghai Sedan
The Shanghai SH760A is more than a car
— it's a symbol of a bygone era in Shanghai.

Once highly coveted, it slowly disappeared from the streets,
but never from the city's memory.

It witnessed decades of change and
became part of Shanghai's collective soul.
Now, through a collaboration with author Jin Yucheng,
Hanswerks has brought it back — not just restored,
but reborn as a moving piece of art,
still telling Shanghai's story in a new way.
